Halo 3
Tim Becker
The explosive final chapter of the Halo saga is finally here and it was definitely worth the wait.
Halo 3 starts where the second installment ended. Master Chief has finally made it to earth. The Covenant, the alien civilization that the chief has been fighting for two games now, has located earth and destroyed its resistance while searching for clues about the Halo system. Meanwhile, a new enemy has awakened called the Flood. The Flood is a parasite that makes monsters out of its prey and will not stop until it has killed every living being in the galaxy. Even with his new allies, the Elites, the Master Chief Spartan 117 is going to have his hands full.
The story is pretty simple. The last hope of mankind tries to fight off alien invaders. The game is another story all together. With explosive graphics made possible by the Xbox 360 and incredible digital sound, this game will blow you away. Granted, I have been playing this game in HDTV, with surround sound, but regardless, game fans have to try this game even if they do not have these. It is not the best selling game franchise of all time for no reason.
The usual arsenal is here. Players have 19 different weapons that can be picked up throughout the game, as well as several different types of grenades and other explosive devices. There are also 10 different types of vehicles in the game to help you along the way. Inside the settings menu, players can also customize their Spartan to make him all their own. Of course, there are also a ton of online features. Players can enjoy up to nine different types of online games, as well as enjoy new file sharing capabilities. Now you can share film clips from your own game, screenshots, and maps with your friends online. Another new feature called the Forge has also been added. In the Forge, you can place objects, equipment, and even hazards for your enemies on any Halo 3 multiplayer level. This feature can have a dramatic effect on the outcome of multiplayer games. This feature can be done alone or you and a friend can make it together.
I do not want to give away any of the plot points in the game. All I can tell you is this game is incredible. Even if you are not a huge Halo fan, you should give this game a try. It really takes gaming to a different level. I was never a big fan of the franchise, but due to the massive advertising campaign the game received, I still found myself pre-ordering it and waiting in line to receive my copy the day it came out. All in all, I was not disappointed, and you will not be either.
