A heated subject, the debate of immigration is dominated the politically correct and power-hungry politicians. Although these people are trying to "discredit" anyone who tries to solve the issue, their attempts are feeble and untrue. Realistically, however, all they want is the minority vote.
Illegal immigration is somewhat of a double-edged sword in the United States. True, the abundance of cheap labor is helping houses, produce and similar goods and services stay at a lower price. Still, the negative outcomes of immigration outweigh the positive ones. Illegal immigrants are taking American jobs; crowding schools, prisons, and hospitals, while leaving the bill to our taxes. For instance, North County, California reported an expense of $9 million dollars for housing 5,041 illegal immigrants over one fiscal year.
Despite the acquisition of American jobs, it is hard to hide America's unemployment rate of 4.7% considering the 12-20 million illegal aliens. Clearly, they are filling jobs. Without that labor force, our economy would take a disastrous blow.
So what do we do about illegal immigration? First, we should close the northern and southern borders with a fence and guards. In addition to helping the illegal immigration problem, this would aid our national defense. One cannot have a sovereign nation without borders. After, the immigration issue is solved.
As a free market advocate, I'd go with a laissez-faire approach. This would mean businesses have the responsibility of the immigration labor market, meaning they would be in charge of completing the necessary health and background checks. If Mexico's government will not comply with these requests, other countries will. Every nation wants our dollar to circulate back to their economy. After the successful background check, the business will also be in charge of transporting them to and from the United States. Our government would only be in charge of issuing legal forms of temporary or permanent residency.
This solution will solve many of the health issues burdening our hospitals, prisons and schools, while providing inexpensive labor to enhance our economy as well as neighboring markets. All of these actions and not relying on government intervention will solve the conundrum of immigration.
