With the help of Ed Glauser, an alcohol and other drugs/wellness counselor at GSC Oconee, students will find many events throughout the year reaching out to help with problems college students face on and off campus.
On Sep. 30, the year kicked off with two events pinpointing alcohol use and abuse seen all over college campuses. In the first seminar, "Alcohol, Parties, Facebook/MySpace & the Law," students learned all about state alcohol laws, including: underage drinking, serving to minors, charging for alcohol, noise violations, search and seizure law and much more. Also, students were informed about the potential pitfalls of using Facebook and MySpace.
The second event was held that evening, "To drink or not to drink?" In this program, Erin English, from University of Georgia's health services included a frank discussion about the pros and cons of various alcohol and drug related choices, as well as the strategies that may help to reduce the risk of experiencing alcohol and drug-related harm.
Every month offers two events, one at noon and one that evening at 6 p.m. Along with helpful knowledge covering many subjects, students may receive co-curricular credit (ask your professors), and always free food.
Be sure to stop by on Oct. 22 for the noon event "The Three C's to Safer Sex," and the evening event at 6 p.m. "Myths about Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs."
