Don't let low paying jobs, high gas prices, short expensive drinks and tall hotel fees stand in the way of having a good time in Jacksonville, FL during the UGA-Florida game.
The economy is constantly leaving students with less and less money. Gas prices have risen over 120 percent in the last two years and food prices have risen 22 percent in the last two months.
It is a well known fact that most college students have little extra money. When it comes to entertainment, students in Athens love to drink downtown and watch the dawgs. "Going to the bars can get expensive," said UGA student Michael Kleban. "I will spend an average of $40 every time I go downtown." When asked why she was going to Jacksonville, UGA student Sarah Balke said "I'm going to have fun with my friends and get wasted."
In Jacksonville, drinks can get expensive and the best way to save is to go online to the bars' websites beforehand and look up the drink specials and find special events. Fun bars with websites are Mavericks Rock and Honky Tonk (www.mavericksatthelanding.com), The Twisted Martini (www.the twistedmartini.com), Southend Brewery (www.southendbrewery.com), and Jack Rabbits (www.jackrabbitsonline.com).
The Landing is a central location with a large assortment of restaurants, bars and live events. The Landing will save you from driving to different locations, thereby saving gas money. According to UGA student and Jacksonville trip veteran Courtney Chauvenne, "The landing is the best place in Jacksonville." The Landing consists of all the online bars except for Jack Rabbits.
However, the bars aren't the only place to party with your friends. There's tailgating. The tailgating at the stadium is packed with students who have saved on bar tabs by purchasing their own liquor.
Paying four drinks at a bar can get expensive. $20 at a bar can get you three, maybe four drinks. Spending $20 on a handle of rum and one dollar on a two liter of coke can get you ten plus drinks. Not going to the bars and buying your own liquor could save you over half your designated drinking budget.
